The Ingraham Estates Civic Association works with residents, the Village, Town, County, State departments, and partner agencies to address long-standing issues and improve daily life in our neighborhood. These are real outcomes driven by community advocacy, follow-up, and persistence.
Advocacy helped move repairs and safety improvements forward at the Hempstead LIRR station.
April 2024 - Advocated for increased police presence at Hempstead Station
March 2025 - IECA met with LIRR administrators to address issues at LIRR Hempstead station
May 2025 - Bike racks added to the LIRR Hempstead station
August 2025 - LIRR accessibility ramp repaired
November 2025 - No smoking/vaping signs installed on crossover bridge
April 2024 - Walgreens Sliding Door Repair
Escalation to Walgreens headquarters led to door repairs being expedited, and much needed in-store shopping carts and baskets.
October 2024 - Walgreens Roof Repair
Long delayed roof repairs were addressed after sustained follow up by the IECA to Walgreens headquarters.
October 2025 - Street Light Repairs
Reported street light outage on Lincoln Rd. were escalated and resolved, improving nighttime safety.
November 2025 - Welcome Signs Holiday Decoration
For the first time, holiday decorations were added to the Ingraham Estates welcome signs, bringing a sense of pride and shared community spirit.
Fall 2025 - DRI Initiative Consultation
IECA participated in the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) by sharing resident feedback and community priorities to help inform planning and revitalization discussions.
November 2025 - New Pedestrian Crosswalk Added
After months of outreach to Village and Town traffic depts. to improve pedestrian safety in multiple areas, a new crosswalk and pedestrian signal was installed at Peninsula Blvd. and Henry St. near Hempstead Middle School to improve safety.
January 2026 - Street Sign Repaired
Reported hanging street sign on Clermont to Public Works and followed up on repair.
May 2026 - Sidewalk Repaired
Reported unleveled sidewalk on Crowell St. to Public Works and followed up on repair.
April 2026 - Welcome Signs Flower Planting
Partnered with the Dept. of Public Works and Hofstra University students to plant fresh, colorful flowers at our Welcome signs, brightening the community's entrance and sharing beauty, warmth, and vibrancy with neighbors and visitors.
Advocacy contributed to a code change addressing problematic subdivision practices by developers.
§ 139-28 Area of one-story dwellings, and § 139-29 Area of two-story dwellings [Amended 6-20-2023 by L.L. No. 2-2023]
Every dwelling shall have a maximum floor area ratio (FAR) of 40% of the lot size.
Community advocacy helped halt a proposed 54-unit development that raised serious neighborhood concerns.
Business owner had a recurring sewer backup issue. IECA contacted Public Works to escalate and resolve to prevent further damage.
IECA promoted the Village signage program to support local businesses and improve corridors.
Continuous monitoring and reporting illegal parking, commercial vehicles, and street congestion to Traffic, Police, and Village officials. Supported resident petition efforts for a residential parking permit program to help ease overcrowded parking and improve quality of life.
Potholes and roadway conditions in Ingraham Estates area are continually being reported, tracked, and repaired.
