Ingraham Estates is a residential neighborhood located within the Incorporated Village of Hempstead, one of the oldest and most historic villages in New York State. Hempstead was incorporated in 1853, making it the first self governing incorporated village in the state.
As Hempstead grew in the early twentieth century, new neighborhoods were carefully planned to meet the needs of families seeking community, stability, and access to transportation and local services. Ingraham Estates was formally laid out during this period, with subdivision maps filed in the early 1920s. These maps established the street layout and residential lots that continue to define the neighborhood today.
From its beginnings, Ingraham Estates developed as a primarily residential community. Over the decades, it has remained a neighborhood known for its strong block connections, long time residents, and commitment to maintaining quality of life.
Today, Ingraham Estates continues to evolve while holding onto its roots. Residents work together through civic engagement, advocacy, and community involvement to address challenges, protect neighborhood character, and ensure that the area remains a welcoming place to live for current and future generations.
